Moong Dal Halwa

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup moong dal (split yellow lentils), roasted
  • 1 cup ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds and pistachios for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Roast the moong dal in a dry pan over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, or until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma. Allow it to cool and grind it into a fine powder.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat ghee over medium heat.
  3. Add the ground roasted moong dal to the pan and stir continuously for about 20-25 minutes or until the dal turns light brown and gives off a nutty aroma.
  4. Add water and to the dal mixture and stir well. Be careful, as the mixture may splatter.
  5. Cook for 10-15 minutes until the dal is soft and fully cooked.
  6. Add sugar and cardamom powder and mix well.
  7. Continue cooking on low heat for another 10-15 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the halwa has thickened to your desired consistency.
  8. Garnish with sliced almonds and pistachios.
  9. Serve hot or cold, as per your preference.
