Ingredients:
- 1 cup moong dal (split yellow lentils), roasted
- 1 cup ghee (clarified butter)
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 cups water
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds and pistachios for garnish
Instructions:
- Roast the moong dal in a dry pan over medium heat for 10-15 minutes, or until it turns golden brown and gives off a nutty aroma. Allow it to cool and grind it into a fine powder.
- In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat ghee over medium heat.
- Add the ground roasted moong dal to the pan and stir continuously for about 20-25 minutes or until the dal turns light brown and gives off a nutty aroma.
- Add water and to the dal mixture and stir well. Be careful, as the mixture may splatter.
- Cook for 10-15 minutes until the dal is soft and fully cooked.
- Add sugar and cardamom powder and mix well.
- Continue cooking on low heat for another 10-15 minutes until the sugar has dissolved and the halwa has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Garnish with sliced almonds and pistachios.
- Serve hot or cold, as per your preference.
